WWE announces interim championship bout at SummerSlam

Raw General Manager Adam Pearce announced on social media that a ladder match will be set for SummerSlam to crown an interim WWE Women’s Champion. Current champion Rhea Ripley has been recovering from an meniscus injury, and while she is “close to returning” per Pearce, Ripley will not be able to compete at the upcoming PLE in Minneapolis. Qualifying matches will be held over the next two weeks beginning on the 7/17 edition of SmackDown, leading to five women earning their way to the ladder match to crown the interim champion. Pearce finished his announcement by stating that when Ripley does return to action, we will “find out who the one and only WWE Women’s Champion truly will be.”WWE SummerSlam emanates from the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2.
