7-Seaters Under Rs 20 Lakh: Mahindra XUV 7XO AX Diesel MT

Rs. 18.66 lakh (on-road, Mumbai)

The base variant of the XUV 7XO is quite feature-rich, as it gets six airbags, a triple-screen display, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, push-button start, cruise control, a six-speaker sound system, electrically adjustable ORVMs, DaVinci suspension, etc. While you can also get the higher AX3 variant for less than Rs. 20 lakh, you would have to settle for the petrol option. Not to mention, the AX3 only gets a couple of additional features like reverse camera, rear wiper, rear demister and auto-fold ORVMs. Except for the reverse camera, the other features don’t justify such a premium.

More importantly, you get the mighty 2.2-litre diesel engine and a six-speed manual gearbox. It is reliable, fun to drive, and has decent efficiency figures. As for practicality, the boot space with all rows in place is negligible, and the comfort for passengers in the last row isn’t that great either. But that is the sacrifice you would be making for the road presence, features and a powerful diesel engine.

Tata Safari Pure X Petrol MT

Rs 19.79 lakh (on-road, Mumbai)

The Tata Safari Pure X trim is among the most value-for-money variants in the range. It gets all the amenities like panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, 10.25-inch infotainment screen, 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, electrically adjustable ORVMs with auto-fold, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, cruise control, voice-assisted panoramic sunroof, 17-inch alloys, etc.

However, for less than Rs. 20 lakh, you can only get this trim with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. For the automatic and diesel trims, the Safari commands a hefty premium. Like with the XUV 7XO, practicality isn’t its key highlight. The third row of seats is unusable for longer distances, and the boot space with all the rows up isn’t that great either.

7-Seaters Under Rs 20 Lakh: Kia Carens Clavis HTK Plus Petrol DCT

Rs 19.83 lakh (on-road, Mumbai)

It gets an electrically adjustable ORVM, cruise control, push-button start, an 8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, front parking sensors and much more.

The HTK Plus is the entry-level automatic variant, with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a seven-speed DCT. Furthermore, you also get the option of a six-seater configuration. All in all, you get a comprehensive feature list, an automatic gearbox, and impressive practicality with this variant.
