Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles delivered a strong performance in August 2026, recording its highest monthly domestic wholesales of FY2026-27. Domestic passenger vehicle sales crossed 65,000 units, while EV sales reached a new record and nearly doubled on a YoY basis.
Domestic PV wholesales stood at 65,253 units, compared to 41,001 units in August 2025, registering 59.15% YoY growth. Compared to 62,611 units sold in July 2026, volumes increased by 2,642 units or 4.22% MoM. Including international business, Tata recorded total passenger vehicle sales of 67,753 units, up 56.42% from 43,315 units a year ago.
Highest Monthly Sales Of FY27
August was Tata’s strongest domestic wholesale month of the current financial year. Along with higher dealer dispatches, the company reported healthy retail performance, with its Vahan passenger vehicle market share reaching 14.7%during the month. Tata says customer demand remained strong across its portfolio, supported by sustained bookings and retail sales.
Punch was among the major contributors, recording its highest-ever domestic monthly sales. Tata has not disclosed individual Punch volumes in the latest update. The number is likely to be above 22k. Tata also highlighted strong demand for its CNG portfolio. The company currently follows a multi-powertrain strategy spanning petrol, diesel, CNG and electric vehicles across different segments.
Tata EV Sales Cross 16,500 Units
Electric vehicles delivered one of the biggest highlights of Tata’s August performance. Total EV sales, including domestic and international business, reached 16,549 units, compared to 8,540 units in August 2025. This represents an increase of 8,009 units or 93.78% YoY, making August the first month in which Tata’s EV volumes crossed the 16,500-unit mark.
Tata’s EV Vahan market share increased to a record 43.74% during August. Despite increasing competition in India’s electric passenger vehicle market, Tata therefore accounted for more than four out of every ten EV registrations during the month. Punch EV also recorded its highest-ever monthly sales, although individual volumes have not been disclosed.
International Business Hits Record High
Tata’s international passenger vehicle business also achieved a new milestone. Car exports reached an all-time high of 2,500 units during August, compared to 2,314 units in the corresponding month last year, representing 8.04% YoY growth. Combined domestic and international PV sales consequently increased to 67,753 units from 43,315 units last year.
Tata CV Sales Jump 49%
Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles also recorded strong growth during August. Total CV sales reached 44,411 units, compared to 29,863 units last year, registering 49% YoY growth.
Domestic CV sales increased 33% to 36,619 units. HCV truck sales grew 42% to 10,612 units, ILMCV trucks increased 20% to 6,859 units, while passenger carriers rose 31% to 4,701 units. SCV cargo and pickup sales increased 34% to 14,447 units. International CV business recorded particularly strong growth, increasing 227% YoY to 7,792 units from 2,382 units.
