Sonam Wangchuk hunger strike LIVE: Wangchuk continues his fast in hospital; CJP's Dipke claims Delhi Police planning overnight 'crackdown' on protest

Meanwhil, activist Sonam Wangchuk —who was forcibly removed from Jantar Mantar protest site as his indefinite hunger strike entered day 21— continues to fast in the hospital. Through the day, he refused intravenous fluids, oral rehydration solution and other medications despite signs of dehydration and metabolic abnormalities, hospital authorities said on Saturday evening (July 18, 2026). An independent expert from AIIMS has concurred with the treating team that Sonam Wangchuk needs “immediate medical intervention”, the hospital said in its latest bulletin.

Mr. Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali J. Angmo has alleged a lack of transparency at the hospital, pushing for the activist to be discharged. Earlier she had stated that nothing should be administered to Mr. Wangchuk orally or intravenously without taking consent from her, his family and his doctors “who have been monitoring his health for the past 20 days”.

Activist Anna Hazare on Saturday (July 18, 2026) said the Union government should hold talks with Mr. Wangchuk. “The government should not test his limits. Say yes or no (to his demands) but what is wrong in holding discussions,” he said in a video message.
