Royal Enfield is all set to launch the Himalayan 440 in India on 4 September. Ahead of that, the motorcycle was spotted at what looks like a dealership stockyard. The motorcycle was partially covered, but a few exposed elements revealed some new details about it.
The most noteworthy element is the instrument cluster, which is much simpler than the now-defunct Himalayan 411. Unlike the previous bike’s comprehensive cockpit with as many as five round dials, including the Tripper, the new bike has a more conservatively laid out console. The main dial has an analogue speedometer with a small LCD for displaying other crucial data, while sitting beside this is a Tripper navigation module. The Tripper might come as an option.
The Himalayan 440 will be based on the same platform as the Scram 440, with some distinctions. It will use the same 443cc, air/oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine, which produces 25.4bhp and 34Nm and is paired with a six-speed gearbox. This engine is known for its effortless torque, and the strong low-end grunt should also make it more suitable for off-roading. Unlike the Scram 440’s 19-inch front, the Himalayan 440 should incorporate a 21-inch front wheel for added off-road capability. The design could be nearly identical to the Himalayan 411, except for new paint schemes and decals.
