'No Locus Standi': India Swiftly Rejects Pakistan-EU Joint Statement On Jammu & Kashmir

New Delhi has strongly hit out at the joint press communique issued by Pakistan and the European Union, categorically rejecting the references made to Jammu and Kashmir. Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Randhir Jaiswal, stated that India dismisses the unwarranted commentary, reiterating that the region remains entirely an internal matter. He emphasised that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India, warning external entities with no locus standi to desist from interfering in India’s sovereign affairs.

The MEA’s sharp rebuttal underscores India’s long-standing diplomatic position against the internationalisation of the Kashmir issue by Islamabad. In recent bilateral and multilateral forums, Pakistan has consistently attempted to embed references to Jammu and Kashmir within joint statements to garner international backing. New Delhi, however, continues to maintain a firm boundary, asserting that third parties have no role or authority to comment on India’s administrative and territorial integrity.

This diplomatic pushback also comes amid India’s broader efforts to showcase regularisation, democratic processes, and infrastructure development within Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. By holding local elections and driving significant economic investments into the region, New Delhi has consistently countered Pakistani rhetoric on the global stage. Diplomatic observers note that India’s firm stance serves as a direct message not only to Islamabad but also to Western partners like the European Union, signalling that economic and strategic partnerships must remain distinct from unwarranted interference in domestic sovereignty.

The inclusion of Jammu and Kashmir in the Pak-EU communique is viewed by Indian officials as an unnecessary distraction engineered by Islamabad to deflect from its own internal political and economic challenges. By swiftly and unequivocally rejecting the joint press communique, the MEA has re-established that India will not tolerate any dilution of its territorial sovereignty in international diplomacy, urging foreign nations and blocs to respect established geopolitical boundaries
