Female Hair Loss: How Two Women in the Middle East Are Redefining Beauty

Women flooded her inbox with stories of their own stress-induced shedding, vitamin deficiencies and chronic hair conditions. “My mother was concerned because she knew how my hair was when I was younger,” she recalls. “No one knew how to work with my hair like I did.”Hair loss rarely exists in isolation. Having dealt with the problem herself, she’s quick to remind us that “40 per cent of women experience hair thinning by the age of 50 and nearly one-third of women may face hair loss during their lifetime.” For herself, Regenera was the best option. “It’s performed only once every 12 to 18 months and works by stimulating the scalp with my own regenerative cells.

A few months later, designer and entrepreneur Tamara Farra Hakim realised something remarkably similar. But unlike Abraham, she postponed speaking publicly about her androgenic alopecia until she felt she had something practical to offer. “For me, it wasn’t about letting people know I have it,” she explains. “It was about making the nformation useful and providing a solution from my experience. ” The response was immediate. Women flooded her inbox with stories of their own stress-induced shedding, vitamin deficiencies and chronic hair conditions. “It’s amazing because not only did I make someone else feel less lonely, but hearing their stories made me feel less isolated too,” she says. “It really works both ways.”

For Hakim, the journey began when she was 12. At first, losing hair barely registered. “My mother was concerned because she knew how my hair was when I was younger,” she recalls. But by her early teens, the change became impossible to ignore.

What followed was years of experimentation. Clip-ins led to elaborate extensions that required constant maintenance. “Every three months I would fly to Paris to fix it because as your hair grows, the root moves back. The whole thing was like a wig. It would wiggle on my head. That was horrible,” she recalls. Photoshoots became a source of anxiety as she worried whether her hair would match a client’s vision. “No one knew how to work with my hair like I did.”

Hair loss rarely exists in isolation. Each falling strand affects one’s confidence, creating a cycle that seems impossible to break. For Dubai-based aesthetic medicine and dermatology specialist Dr Halah Taha, this struggle was as personal as it was professional. Having dealt with the problem herself, she’s quick to remind us that “40 per cent of women experience hair thinning by the age of 50 and nearly one-third of women may face hair loss during their lifetime.” For herself, Regenera was the best option. “It’s an autologous treatment, which means it uses my own tissue, making it a safe and natural option,” she explains. “It’s performed only once every 12 to 18 months and works by stimulating the scalp with my own regenerative cells. My advice is to start early. The earlier we intervene, the better the outcome.”
