The third day of the Asian Games in Japan concluded on Monday (September 21, 2026) with India’s medal tally standing at six medals, four silver and two bronze, as the wait continued for a gold.
Thai women’s badminton player Pitchamon Opatniputh became the first known doping case at the Asian Games after testing positive for the banned substance furosemide, testers said.
Her bronze is India’s first medal in mixed martial arts, which made its debut at the ongoing Asian Games.
The feat comes a day after the women’s 10m air rifle shooters also clinched two silver medals.

Thai women’s badminton player Pitchamon Opatniputh became the first known doping case at the Asian Games after testing positive for the banned substance furosemide, testers said. The 19-year-old, ranked 18th in the world, has been provisionally suspended by the International Testing Agency (ITA) and was due to face China in the team event on Tuesday (September 22).
Her sample was collected during out-of-competition testing on September 17. She can challenge the provisional suspension at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and request analysis of her B-sample. Furosemide can be used to remove water from the body for rapid weight loss.

Meanwhile, Suchika Tariyal signed off with a bronze medal in the women’s traditional 60kg mixed martial arts event after losing 0-2 to Singapore’s Hui Hoon Teo in the extra round of their semifinal. Her bronze is India’s first medal in mixed martial arts, which made its debut at the ongoing Asian Games. Controversially,Hui Hoon Teo was declared the winner based on her lower body weight after the gruelling semifinal ended in a draw.
And India’s shooters added three more medals winning silver in the men’s 10m air rifle team event before Himanshu Dhillon and former world champion Rudrankksh Patil secured silver and bronze, respectively, in the individual final. Dhillon scored 252.4 points to finish behind China’s Lihao Sheng (254.2), while Rudrankksh took bronze with 230.9.
The feat comes a day after the women’s 10m air rifle shooters also clinched two silver medals.
