Bengaluru-based electric mobility solution providing startup, Ather Energy, is on the verge of becoming a mainstream electric scooter manufacturer. Their latest product, the Konarc, is projected as the model that will make Ather mainstream. It has been launched (partially) and in this comparison, we put it against rivals to see where it falls on paper.
For this comparison, we’re only considering the Konarc S which has been launched and not considering the Z variant and the S 200 km variant as they’re not launched. This S variant does not get everything that was showcased on the stage. So, only the Konarc S 100, S 125 and S 161 km variants are part of this comparison.
Ather Konarc vs Rivals Compared
For the sake of this comparison, we have only taken 30 Series and 35 Series of Chetak lineup. Starting with dimensions, electric scooter OEMs often tend not to give out full spec sheets. Ather has not disclosed the weight of S 100 km variant, for some reason. So, Konarc S 125 and S 161 km variants weigh 126.5 kg and 129 kg. It is slightly heavier than both iQube and Orbiter.
Konark starts from Rs 99,999, which only the Orbiter sort of matches, while iQube and Chetak (30 and 35 Series) start at higher price points. iQube appears the costliest, but it has to be noted that Konarc Z variant will be costlier and many of the fancy drool worthy features will be locked behind Ather Pro Pack (price yet to be announced), which costs extra again (prices effective Ex-sh, including subsidies).
Right now, Konarc maxes out at 3.5 kWh battery pack promising up to 161 km range. Orbiter’s and Chetak’s max claimed range is close, at 158 km and then 153 km, respectively. iQube with its large 5.3 kWh battery outpaces everyone with 212 km claimed range. Orbuter’s battery maxes out at 3.1 kWh while Chetak’s battery maxes out at 3.5 kWh with 35 Series. iQube has the highest top speed of 82 km/h, while Chetak can reach 80 km/h, followed by Konarc at 70 km/h and then Orbiter at 68 km/h.
All four scooters in this comparison have fixed batteries and only the Konarc comes with an on-board 450W charger, which is an underrated convenience feature. Also, convenient is Konarc’s AirWalk, which is like an automatic assisted parking, which others lack. Konarc is the only one to come with three ride modes, while others offer two. Konarc is also the only one in this comparison to offer combined charging, adding a 450W charger taking the total to 900W.
Features & Equipment
Where features are concerned, many of you would have been already impressed with Konarc and everything it has to offer. However, most of those drool-worthy features are with Z trim only, which is not launched yet. Only the Chetak comes with a single-sided leading-link front suspension while others get conventional telescopic ones. Except for TVS offerings, Chetak and Konarc come with rear mono-shock.
Only the Konarc and Orbiter come with 14-inch front and 12-inch rear wheel combination. Chetak offers a 35L under-seat storage and then a 5L frunk, Orbiter follows with 34L boot, iQube with 32L and Konarc with 31L. All LED lighting has become common these days and all four scooters get them. Only the Chetak here offers a keyless function and a smart key, which is convenient.
Konarc only offers (currently) a basic LCD display (4.2-inch to 7-inch) without touch function, while TVS Orbiter’s is a 5.5-inch non-touch LCD unit. Only iQube and Chetak offer TFT touchscreens and iQube’s is larger at 7-inches. Only Konarc and iQube offer a pillion backrest and only iQube offers cruise control. Hill hold is common between all scooters here.
