Maruti Hybrid Cars Launch: Expected Mileage
In 2027, Maruti will introduce new hybrid cars, including the Fronx, Swift, and Baleno. Now, the hybrid tech is expected to deliver better fuel efficiency than the CNG cars in its lineup – that’s what the automaker actually said. So, we can expect upcoming Maruti cars to deliver mileage of around 30+ KMPL, depending on the model. The fuel efficiency of the Swift will be more than that of the Fronx and the Baleno.
But how will the inclusion of this series-hybrid setup deliver such good mileage figures? Well, the petrol engine in a series hybrid setup serves only as a generator or range extender. Just like an EV, the motor draws electric power from either a small battery pack or from a generator run by the petrol engine. In this setup, the petrol engine acts as a generator to recharge the EV’s battery pack and deliver more range.

That said, we expect the Maruti hybrids to deliver an appreciable fuel economy of nearly 30-35 KMPL (claimed), and that will further translate to around 27-30KMPL in real-world conditions, depending on the driver’s behaviour.

What Else?
Now, Maruti has confirmed that this hybrid setup will debut with the Fronx and will later be offered on the Swift, Baleno, and other models. If Maruti plans to offer a 1.2-litre NA petrol (Z-series) engine with the new-gen Brezza, we can also expect the series-hybrid setup on it at a later point.
Regarding pricing, the new series hybrids will be produced solely by Maruti, with no intervention from Toyota. This in-house development is done mainly to keep the final cost in check. And Maruti being Maruti, we expect the hybrid models to be fairly priced compared to the regular models.
