Doctors, nurses and other hospital staff immediately launched an evacuation operation, rescuing several infants from the ward.
Three babies sustained fatal burn injuries, while six others were transferred to the Super Speciality Hospital for further treatment.

Three newborns died after a fire broke out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the District Women’s Hospital in Amravati in the early hours of Monday, officials said.
The fire erupted at around 3.30am on the hospital’s third floor, with preliminary information suggesting it may have been triggered by an explosion in a ventilator inside the neonatal unit.

Around 39 newborns were reportedly in the unit when the fire broke out. Three babies sustained fatal burn injuries, while six others were transferred to the Super Speciality Hospital for further treatment.

The prompt response by hospital staff helped prevent further casualties. Further details on the cause of the fire and the condition of the rescued infants were awaited.
The incident comes days after a separate fire at the NICU of Chhindwara District Hospital in Madhya Pradesh left three newborns injured in the early hours of Saturday.
District hospital Civil Surgeon Kanchan Dubey said the fire broke out at around 1.50am after a spark from the filament of a warmer used in the NICU caused the equipment to catch fire.
“There were 30 other children there, making a total of 33. Three babies were affected, and the remaining 30 were immediately shifted to safety by our staff, including nurses and guards, who acted promptly and saved their lives,” she said.
