A woman who had spent years begging for a living in Karnataka’s Mandya left locals stunned after more than Rs 30 lakh in cash was found inside her rented home following her death.
According to initial estimates by community leaders, there were more than 30 bags containing money inside the house.
Around Rs 8-9 lakh was counted on Sunday, while the cash kept in roughly 20 other bags was still awaiting counting.
The discovery left locals surprised, particularly because Hoor was known to have earned her livelihood through begging.

The woman, identified as Hoor Unnisa, lived alone in a rented house in the Guthalu locality. She and her sister were unmarried, and Hoorahad been living by herself since her sister died around two years ago.

Hoor died on Sunday due to age-related ailments. It was after her death that locals who went to inspect the house reportedly discovered several bags filled with cash.
According to initial estimates by community leaders, there were more than 30 bags containing money inside the house. Around Rs 8-9 lakh was counted on Sunday, while the cash kept in roughly 20 other bags was still awaiting counting.

The cash was subsequently handed over to the mosque in Guthalu for safekeeping. Muslim community leaders also informed Hoor’s relatives about the discovery and said the remaining bags would be opened and counted once they arrived.
A decision on who would be entitled to the money will be taken after her relatives arrive and the entire amount is ascertained. Until then, the cash remains in the custody of the mosque.
