Siya Goyal, an accused in the murder of Pune-based realtor and her fiancé Ketan Agarwal, made headlines after she seemingly flashed her middle finger to journalists. However, her father came up with an explanation for the gesture, saying she had an injured hand.

Siya Goyal was taken to her residence in Pune’s Market Yard area by Pune Rural Police on Thursday as part of an ongoing investigation. After the search and evidence-gathering exercise concluded, Goyal showed the middle finger at journalists waiting outside the premises.

Videos of her gesture went viral on social media, sparking fresh outrage, with many questioning her behaviour and commenting on the broader justice system.

Responding to the outrage, Siya’s father Praveen claimed that she was not making an obscene gesture, but had injured her finger while entering the police vehicle. He said the car door slammed into her hand as she was entering the vehicle, injuring her finger.

Goyal and her alleged lover Chetan Chaudhary have been accused of murdering 25-year-old Ketan Agarwal by allegedly pushing him off a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune district on June 18. Agarwal, a realtor, was engaged to Goyal, and the couple was reportedly scheduled to marry in November this year.

The case has attracted widespread public attention due to its shocking allegations and the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death. They are currently in 14-day judicial custody after refusing to undergo a polygraph test.

Pune Police told the court they recovered deleted data from the accused’s phones, including chats allegedly written in code words, nicknames and emojis. Investigators are examining whether these conversations point to the involvement of a third person in the alleged conspiracy.
