Ex-IndiGo employee alleges he quit after being asked to touch supervisor's feet over uniform violation

According to Jamshid, the issue stemmed from reporting to work without wearing a tie, a mandatory part of the airline's uniform. Jamshid claimed he was then asked not only to apologise to his supervisor but also to touch her feet as a sign of remorse. He said he refused the instruction, arguing that such a demand had no place in a professional work environment. A former IndiGo employee's account of his resignation has gone viral, reigniting conversations around workplace dignity, employee rights and how disciplinary issues are handled in customer-facing jobs.

Mohammad Jamshid Y, who previously worked as a ground staff member at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport, alleged in an Instagram video that he decided to leave the airline after an incident that he described as disrespectful and humiliating.

According to Jamshid, the issue stemmed from reporting to work without wearing a tie, a mandatory part of the airline's uniform. He said he accepted responsibility for the oversight and apologised when it was pointed out during an inspection.

However, he alleged that the situation escalated after a senior official questioned his supervisor over the dress code lapse. Jamshid claimed he was then asked not only to apologise to his supervisor but also to touch her feet as a sign of remorse. He said he refused the instruction, arguing that such a demand had no place in a professional work environment.

Following the incident, Jamshid said he raised the matter through IndiGo's ethics and compliance mechanism. While he acknowledged that the company reviewed his complaint, he said the investigation did not validate his claims. According to him, the inquiry concluded that available CCTV footage could not confirm his presence in the terminal on the day of the alleged incident, a finding he disputed, citing the extensive camera coverage across the airport.

Jamshid said the experience ultimately convinced him to resign despite considering the role his dream job. He added that workplace mistakes should be addressed through established professional processes rather than actions that, in his view, undermine an employee's self-respect.

The video has drawn significant attention on social media, with users expressing mixed reactions. While many supported Jamshid's decision and called for greater respect for employees, others urged the airline to clarify the circumstances surrounding the allegations.

IndiGo has not publicly responded to the claims at the time of writing.
