DC Drass Chairs HPV Vaccine Awareness Meet, Calls for Mass Mobilization to Prevent Cervical Cancer. Drass, May 22, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS) today chaired a meeting to review the status of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in Drass District for protection against cervical cancer. Emphasis was laid on spreading awareness about the importance of HPV vaccination, its role in preventing cervical cancer and the need for timely immunization among eligible beneficiaries. He also highlighted the need for actively engaging with the public and educating families about the benefits of HPV vaccination. The meeting concluded with directions to the BMO and other officers to strengthen awareness at the grassroots level for the successful implementation of the HPV vaccination initiative.

Drass, May 22, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS) today chaired a meeting to review the status of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in Drass District for protection against cervical cancer.

The meeting was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrate. Vishal Atri (JKAS); Block Medical Officer (BMO), Dr.Sajjad Hussain; Councillors of LAHDC-Kargil Abdul Samad and Abdul Wahid, along with Principals and Headmasters of Schools, Zonal Education Officer Mohammad Ibrahim as well as heads and representatives of religious organizations of Drass.

On the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner, the BMO gave a detailed background of the exercise of vaccination to be undertaken in collaboration with schools of the District. Further, he informed that the vaccine needs to be administered to girls in the 14-15 age group and said that there are no confirmed cases of any kind of serious side effects.

Emphasis was laid on spreading awareness about the importance of HPV vaccination, its role in preventing cervical cancer and the need for timely immunization among eligible beneficiaries.

While stressing the importance of coordinated efforts among stakeholders, the Deputy Commissioner urged heads of the religious institutions to spread awareness about the vaccine during their sermons so that maximum students benefit from the vaccine and develop immunity against cervical cancer. He also highlighted the need for actively engaging with the public and educating families about the benefits of HPV vaccination.

The meeting concluded with directions to the BMO and other officers to strengthen awareness at the grassroots level for the successful implementation of the HPV vaccination initiative.
