WTA Chennai Day 2 Predictions

Jil Teichmann vs Joanna Garland

Head-to-head: First meeting

Garland hasn’t been able to make the big step up to WTA Tour events this year, appearing in her second WTA Tour main draw of the season. That’s down from eight in 2025, and the Taipei No. 1 will have an upcoming WTA 125 to defend next January. Teichmann reached the fourth round of the French Open this season, and since then hasn’t been playing much due to a right leg injury. If healthy, her lefty game should pose a difficult challenge, and she should advance.

Prediction: Teichmann in 3

Oksana Selekhmeteva vs Teodora Kostovic

Head-to-head: Selekhmeteva 1-0

At 19, Kostovic is looking to make the leap from ITF to WTA events, and this tournament could provide a good opportunity to make a run. The Serb fell at the first hurdle to Maria Timofeeva in the WTA Guangzhou main draw last week, but Selekhmeteva, who reached the Top 75 earlier this season, has struggled far more as of late. Early losses at WTA 125 events have hurt the Spaniard, and she hasn’t played in Asia yet compared to the Serb. Look for Kostovic to win in a close one, with the match coming down to the wire.

Prediction: Kostovic in 3

Viktoria Morvayova vs Polina Kudermetova

Head-to-head: First meeting

Kudermetova may breathe a sigh of relief after her initial opponent, Harriet Dart, withdrew from the tournament after hoisting a first trophy in Guangzhou last week. Kudermetova will aim for a seventh WTA Tour win of 2026, and against the lucky loser Moravayova, she should like her chances. Moravayova hasn’t won back-to-back matches since July, all matches on the ITF Circuit.

Prediction: Kudermetova in 2

Janice Tjen vs Katherine Hui

Head-to-head: First meeting

Hui, a former Stanford University player and 2023 US Open girls champion, ranked No. 1067, will take to the court against the defending champion–who is one of many Top 100 players eyeing a solid end to 2026 after a wayward season. Tjen, the No. 1 seed, holds a poor 16-28 record this season, but her steady groundstrokes and consistency should be too much against the American.

Prediction: Tjen in 2
