Hero MotoCorp’s upcoming mid-capacity adventure motorcycle, widely expected to be called the Xpulse 421, has been spotted testing once again. This time, the motorcycle was seen at Khardung La in Ladakh, one of the highest motorable passes in the world. The latest spy shots reveal a heavily camouflaged test mule parked alongside multiple Hero motorcycles, suggesting the company is continuing real-world validation of its new adventure platform in demanding conditions.
Hero Xpulse 421 Seen In High-Altitude Testing
The test bike carries temporary registration plates and appears to be accompanied by support vehicles and other Hero motorcycles. Testing at Khardung La is significant as the route offers extreme weather, low oxygen levels, rough terrain and steep gradients — ideal conditions for evaluating engine performance, cooling systems, suspension setup and overall durability.
Design Details Revealed
While camouflage continues to conceal most styling elements, several design cues are visible. The motorcycle features a tall adventure-touring stance with:
– Upright riding ergonomics
– Large windscreen
– Hand guards
– Long single-piece seat
– Wire-spoke wheels
– Long-travel suspension
– Rear luggage rack
– High-mounted exhaust
The front section appears to be inspired by traditional rally-style adventure motorcycles, with a vertically stacked design and sizeable windscreen aimed at touring comfort. A large TFT display is clearly visible in the cockpit area, suggesting navigation and connectivity features could be offered.
New Engine Platform Under Development
Powering the motorcycle is expected to be Hero’s new 421cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine currently under development. While official specifications remain undisclosed, industry estimates suggest output in the region of 40-45 hp, placing it directly against rivals such as Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and KTM 390 Adventure. The test bike also appears to feature:
– USD front forks
– Rear monoshock suspension
– Dual-channel ABS
– Ride-by-wire throttle
– Multiple riding modes
Hero’s Biggest Xpulse Yet
Hero has previously confirmed plans for a larger-capacity adventure motorcycle platform. They had even shown sketches of the same, at EICMA 2024. The Xpulse 421 is expected to become the flagship of the Xpulse range and significantly expand Hero’s presence in the premium motorcycle segment. Compared to the lightweight and off-road-focused Xpulse 210, the upcoming 421 appears to be positioned as a more serious long-distance adventure tourer while retaining off-road capability.
Speaking about launch, Hero MotoCorp has not officially revealed details yet. However, considering the extent of testing currently underway, the motorcycle could make its at EICMA in November this year and launch sometime next year. With the Himalayan 450 gaining strong traction in the adventure segment and more mid-capacity ADV motorcycles arriving in India, Hero’s upcoming Xpulse 421 has the potential to become one of the brand’s most important premium products in recent years.
