The Sensex rose 299.17 points or 0.4 per cent to 74,828.25 and the Nifty50 was up 117.80 points or 0.5 per cent at 23,446.80.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap rose 0.7 per cent and 0.89 per cent, respectively.
Sector-wise, Nifty Metal outperformed with over 2 per cent gain.
Meanwhile, the Nifty IT emerged as the worst performer.
