Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has called for making cycling a regular part of a healthy lifestyle, highlighting its benefits for fitness and the environment.
Speaking to the media after the BRICS Friendship Cycling Event in Visakhapatnam today, Dr Mandaviya said cycling is an integral part of the Fit India Movement.
Dr Mandaviya said the initiative was organised today in nearly 1,800 cities, with around five million young people participating across the country.
The BRICS Friendship Cycling Event was organised from the Novotel Hotel to the Sea Harrier and back.
BRICS delegates, Union and State Government officials, public representatives, police personnel and a large number of young people participated, highlighting friendship and cooperation among BRICS countries.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Sunday on Cycle’ initiative was aimed at encouraging people to adopt cycling and promote a culture of fitness.
Dr Mandaviya said the initiative was organised today in nearly 1,800 cities, with around five million young people participating across the country.
He described cycling as an excellent form of exercise that improves physical fitness and helps reduce pollution. He urged people to participate in cycling every Sunday and make fitness a regular habit.
