In a social media post, Tingre said that his colleague, Nilesh Chandrabhai Chattar (31), a resident of Munjaba Vasti in Dhanori, Pune, passed away on Tuesday.
Tingre alleged that Jehangir Hospital charged a bill of ₹3.25 lakh for nearly 13 hours of treatment, despite no major surgery being performed.
Calling the incident “deeply insensitive,” Tingre accused the hospital administration of prioritising financial recovery over human compassion during a time of grief.
In his post, Tingre strongly criticised what he described as unethical practices in some reputed hospitals in Pune and said such incidents amount to exploitation of grieving families.
Tingre also indicated that he would pursue legal action to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Pune, 18th May 2026: NCP leader and corporator Suhas Tingre has alleged severe negligence and insensitivity by a private hospital following the death of his associate, sparking a controversy over hospital billing practices and treatment of bereaved families.
In a social media post, Tingre said that his colleague, Nilesh Chandrabhai Chattar (31), a resident of Munjaba Vasti in Dhanori, Pune, passed away on Tuesday. He stated that Chattar had lost his father just a month earlier, leaving him as the sole earning member of the family, and his death has left the family devastated.
Tingre alleged that Jehangir Hospital charged a bill of ₹3.25 lakh for nearly 13 hours of treatment, despite no major surgery being performed. He also claimed that ₹50,000 was taken as a deposit even though the patient had insurance coverage.
The corporator further alleged that the hospital refused to hand over the body immediately, stating that it would only be released after insurance approval, which led to prolonged distress for the grieving family.
Calling the incident “deeply insensitive,” Tingre accused the hospital administration of prioritising financial recovery over human compassion during a time of grief. He also claimed that the family was made to wait until the morning to receive the body.
In his post, Tingre strongly criticised what he described as unethical practices in some reputed hospitals in Pune and said such incidents amount to exploitation of grieving families.
He further demanded a detailed inquiry into the matter and strict action against those responsible. Tingre also indicated that he would pursue legal action to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.
NOTE: The hospital’s version will be added after it is received.
