US President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that the United States has “total control" over the Strait of Hormuz, saying he believes Washington will keep control of the strategically important waterway.

Trump also praised the US naval blockade, describing it as a “wall of steel", while launching a sharp attack on Iran’s military and economic situation.

Trump Claims US Has Control Of Hormuz

In a statement, Trump said, “The U.S.A. has total control over the Strait of Hormuz. I THINK WE WILL KEEP IT!"

He described the US naval blockade as a “WALL OF STEEL" and said there was nothing Iran could do about it.

Trump claimed that Iran had no navy or air force and said its remaining soldiers were unpaid. He also said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had been “decimated and fleeing".

He questioned the stability of Iran’s leadership and said the country had no money.

Trump further described Iran as “shot", saying that all it had was “FAKE NEWS" and “300% INFLATION, and getting worse!"

He called Iran “the Bully of the Middle East No Longer" and ended the statement with “Praise be to Allah!"

Iran Rejects Ceasefire Extension Talks

Trump’s remarks come as efforts to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran have hit another roadblock.

A senior Iranian source told Reuters on Wednesday that there had been no discussions between Iran and the United States to extend their ceasefire.

The source said Iran did not recognise any period that could be extended, arguing that the interim agreement had never properly come into effect.

The comments came after Turkey’s Anadolu news agency, citing Pakistani government sources, reported that Tehran and Washington had agreed to extend a 60-day ceasefire under an interim agreement signed in June.

Iran rejected that account.

“There is no talk of an extension because, from Iran’s perspective, there is no period that began and therefore nothing to extend," the Iranian source told Reuters.

Tehran Accuses US Of Violating Deal

The Iranian source also accused the United States of violating the interim agreement shortly after it was reached.

“The United States violated the interim agreement 48 hours after it was reached and withdrew from it a few days later," the source said.

Iran’s position directly challenges reports that Tehran and Washington had agreed to extend the ceasefire.

The disagreement comes as mediators continue efforts to ease tensions between the two countries in West Asia.

Setback For Mediation Efforts

The Iranian rejection represents another setback for efforts to reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran.

While Trump has asserted that the US has control over the Strait of Hormuz and praised the naval blockade, Tehran has rejected reports of an extension to the ceasefire.

Iran’s position is that there is no ceasefire period to extend, while accusing Washington of violating the interim agreement soon after it was reached.
