Actor Naga Chaitanya has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection against online content that he alleges misuses his identity and damages his reputation.
He has also raised concerns about AI-generated content, unauthorised merchandise and objectionable material allegedly being circulated online using his identity.
During the proceedings, Chaitanya's counsel, Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, argued that several pieces of online content contained false and defamatory claims about the actor's personal and professional life.
The lawyer further argued that AI-generated videos and other unauthorised content depicted the actor in a misleading and objectionable manner.
At the conclusion of the hearing, the court issued summons and indicated that it would pass an interim order protecting the actor's personality rights.
Actor Naga Chaitanya has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection against online content that he alleges misuses his identity and damages his reputation. The plea comes amid the circulation of unverified claims and theories surrounding his personal life and previous relationship, including allegations of infidelity.
According to ANI, the actor has sought protection of his personality rights, including against the unauthorised use of his name, image, likeness and identity across digital platforms. He has also raised concerns about AI-generated content, unauthorised merchandise and objectionable material allegedly being circulated online using his identity.
The matter was heard by Justice Jyoti Singh on May 29. During the proceedings, Chaitanya's counsel, Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, argued that several pieces of online content contained false and defamatory claims about the actor's personal and professional life.
Addressing the court, Gaggar said some online posts and videos falsely portrayed Chaitanya as having cheated on his former wife, actor Samantha and alleged that he was responsible for damaging her career. "This is trolling, this is not fair criticism," the advocate submitted.
The lawyer further argued that AI-generated videos and other unauthorised content depicted the actor in a misleading and objectionable manner. According to the plea, such material has been widely circulated across digital platforms, causing harm to Chaitanya's reputation, dignity, privacy and public image.
Gaggar also told the court that Chaitanya is a prominent figure in the Telugu film industry, with a career spanning more than a decade and enjoys a substantial fan base in India and among Telugu-speaking audiences worldwide.
During the hearing, Justice Singh observed that while public figures are naturally subject to greater public scrutiny than private individuals, such scrutiny "has its limitations."
At the conclusion of the hearing, the court issued summons and indicated that it would pass an interim order protecting the actor's personality rights. The matter has been listed for further hearing on September 30.
Naga Chaitanya and Samantha announced their separation in October 2021 after four years of marriage. Since then, both actors have repeatedly found themselves at the centre of online speculation regarding their personal lives.
Chaitanya is currently married to actor Sobhita Dhulipala. They got married as per Telugu rituals in December 2024.
