Most Underrated Cars Under Rs 20 Lakh

Let’s take a look at a few such underrated examples, priced under Rs 20 lakh. At Rs 17.43 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), buyers can get the Aircross X’s top variant, Max Petrol Turbo Automatic Dual-Tone (7-Seater), that offers quite a few bells & whistles. If buyers look beyond the frontrunners in this segment, the Aircross X certainly makes a compelling case for itself. At Rs 18.94 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), the Syros offers its top-spec diesel variant with the convenience of a six-speed torque converter. At Rs 19.25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), the ZX CVT Automatic variant offers an appreciable kit for an under-20 lakh budget.

While most prospective Indian car buyers tend to place their bets on bestsellers, there are products in the background that offer a good overall package but often end up overshadowed by their more commercially successful rivals. Nonetheless, they soldier on and continue to rack up whatever sales numbers they can manage. Let’s take a look at a few such underrated examples, priced under Rs 20 lakh.

Underrated Cars In India – Citroen Aircross X

The Citroen Aircross X (formerly C3 Aircross) is perhaps one of the best examples of a good product let down by weak planning and sales strategy. By the end of 2025, the Aircross X registered sales of just over 100 units per month, despite offering significant improvements over its predecessor. And by mid-2026, that number dropped to a double-digit figure. At Rs 17.43 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), buyers can get the Aircross X’s top variant, Max Petrol Turbo Automatic Dual-Tone (7-Seater), that offers quite a few bells & whistles. The biggest highlight of the Aircross X is not just its high-rated ride quality but also its segment-exclusive fully-removable third row of seats, which gives it a very high practicality quotient. If buyers look beyond the frontrunners in this segment, the Aircross X certainly makes a compelling case for itself.

Kia Syros

Based on market perception, the only aspect that seems to go against the Kia Syros is its outlandish styling, which does not seem to have gone down well with Indian car buyers. As a result, Syros’ monthly sales have been under 1,000 units. If one can look beyond its exterior, the Syros is a very capable people carrier that wins big on space, comfort, quality, fit & finish, and the list of features on offer. The Syros also shows how the Indian car market is still not that open to accepting radical changes and experimentation – most buyers still seem to prefer the traditional! At Rs 18.94 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), the Syros offers its top-spec diesel variant with the convenience of a six-speed torque converter.

Underrated Cars In India – Honda City

With the launch of the 2026 facelift model in May, the Honda City seems to have got a shot in the arm. In the same month, it registered sales of over 1,200 units, the first time it breached the 1,000 mark this year. Though not much has changed with the facelift, the Honda City continues as a beacon of reliability and hassle-free running. At Rs 19.25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), the ZX CVT Automatic variant offers an appreciable kit for an under-20 lakh budget. However, it misses out on a couple of new features, such as ventilated front seats, which require shelling out about another one lakh for the ZX+ trim.
