Milk prices in Mumbai are set to increase from September 1, 2026, with local milk producers announcing a hike of Rs 9 per litre.
The price of tabela milk, currently Rs 93 per litre, will rise to Rs 102 per litre. The increase comes ahead of the festive season and is likely to put additional pressure on household budgets for consumers who regularly buy fresh dairy milk, India Today reported.
The new milk prices will be effective from September 1, 2026, through February 28, 2027.
Why Are Tabela Milk Prices Increasing?
Milk producers attributed the increase to higher expenses involved in maintaining dairy cattle, along with a substantial rise in the prices of feed and fodder.
Producers said escalating operational costs have made it increasingly difficult for dairy farms to maintain the existing rate of Rs 93 per litre. Prices of various cattle-feed items, including grains, have increased by as much as 25%, while more expensive fodder and oil cakes have further raised the cost of producing milk.
With input costs continuing to climb, milk producers said the price revision had become necessary to sustain dairy operations.
