A San Francisco-based woman has gone viral after celebrating her layoff from Meta, saying the job loss made her feel “happy and free” rather than devastated.

“I got laid off from Meta today and honestly, I feel so happy and free like I can finally breathe again,” she said in the clip.

“The funny part is I exceeded expectations in the last four years for all of my performance reviews. But no amount of equity, cash accolades can fix the feeling of your soul slowly dying,” she added.

Raval, who is also a content creator, said the layoff became a turning point that pushed her towards pursuing her long-held creative ambitions.

“Sometimes, it’s a job. Sometimes, it’s a relationship. Sometimes, it’s a version of yourself you have outgrown but you are still stuck in it because it feels safe,” she said, adding: “I was never meant to build someone else’s dream while ignoring my own.”

She further revealed that she would now be joining an AI fashion startup in Silicon Valley as a founding creator, while continuing her work around fashion, storytelling and digital creativity.

In the caption accompanying the video, Raval reflected on her journey before entering the tech industry.

“Before tech, before corporate titles, before Silicon Valley, I was always an artist first,” she said.

Calling herself a “maximalist fashionista”, entrepreneur and creator, Raval said she no longer wanted to spend her life “making slides and sitting in meetings while my real dreams sat on the sidelines.”

“I’m going all in. More fashion. More art. More storytelling. More entrepreneurship. More Asha Mode,” she added.

Asha Raval, who has around 1,23,000 followers on Instagram, is known for creating content around maximalist fashion, outfit styling and confidence.

The viral post comes amid Meta’s latest wave of job cuts, which affected nearly 10 per cent of the company’s global workforce. According to a Bloomberg report, employees at Meta’s Singapore office were among the first to be notified after receiving emails at around 4 am local time.

The layoffs come as Meta ramps up its investments in artificial intelligence, with the company reportedly planning to spend billions of dollars on AI initiatives this year. Before the layoffs and internal restructuring, Meta employed around 78,000 people globally.
