Carens family includes petrol, diesel and electric powertrain options, with Clavis EV becoming the latest addition
Kia India has announced that cumulative sales of the Carens family have crossed the 3 lakh unit milestone in the Indian market. First launched in 2022, Carens has grown into a broader family of products with the addition of Carens Clavis and the recently launched Carens Clavis EV, giving buyers a choice of petrol, diesel and electric powertrains.
Carens lineup continues to evolve
Kia stated that Carens has remained one of its key products by regularly receiving updates in terms of features, safety equipment, technology and comfort. Building on the success of the original MPV, the company introduced Carens Clavis as a more premium offering, followed by Carens Clavis EV to cater to families looking to switch to electric mobility.
Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Sunhack Park, Chief Sales Officer, Kia India, said, “The 300,000-unit milestone for the Carens underscores its position as a segment leader and a true gamechanger in the MPV space. This achievement is a direct result of our product-led strategy, our sharp understanding of customer needs, and our unwavering focus on quality. It strengthens our conviction that the Carens is the benchmark for its class, and we are energized to build on this momentum as we accelerate our growth journey.”
Customer preferences shifting
According to Kia, petrol variants account for 60% of cumulative Carens family sales, while diesel contributes 30%. The recently launched Carens Clavis EV already accounts for the remaining 10% of sales mix. The company also highlighted that demand for higher-spec variants remains strong.
Top trims contribute 18% of total sales, indicating that more customers are opting for feature-rich versions equipped with advanced safety systems, connected technologies and premium comfort features. Buyers continue to show interest in both 6-seat and 7-seat configurations.
Strong momentum for Kia in India
The 3 lakh sales milestone comes at a time when Kia India is witnessing strong momentum across its portfolio. The company recently recorded its best-ever first-half sales performance in India, driven by strong demand for models such as Seltos, Sonet and the expanding Carens family.
Looking ahead, Kia is further strengthening its product lineup with the rollout of Syros EV and has also confirmed the launch of Sorento Hybrid SUV for the Indian market, expanding its presence in both electric and hybrid vehicle segments in coming months.
