That may seem like a lot, but it is standard for a Tamil film, as they tend to be front-loaded. Within that, a major part of the drop was the Middle East, which plummeted 90 per cent, while on the other hand, Singapore was rock steady. Malaysia also held strongly, being among the top second weekends of all time.

Combined with Rs. 171.25 crore from India, the worldwide box office gross for the Suriya starrer is Rs. 238 crore approx. The film hit the Rs. 200 crore mark on Saturday, and it is the first Suriya film to do so.
The way the film is going, it is on course to surpass the Rs. 300 crore mark before the end of its run. For the last seven years, even the Rs. 100 crore worldwide gross eluded Suriya, and now he is directly jumping to his first Rs. 300 crore film. Karuppu has ended the drought for Suriya, and the timing could not be better for the Tamil film industry. Vijay has stepped away from cinema to pursue politics. Rajinikanth is old, and Ajith isn’t too prolific either, with interest in a racing career. In such times, the rebound of Suriya is a godsend as the Tamil film industry is in dire need of stars to headline bigger films.
