The New York Times reported on Sunday (August 16, 2026) that a “dubious post” from India had spread around the world to key leaders in the U.S.–Iran conflict, potentially harming ceasefire talks between the two countries.
The post in question said Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander-in-Chief Ahmad Vahidi had supposedly claimed that Iran was now intent on building a nuclear weapon.
The post from India was from a user that the Times did not name.
The handle was apparently the earliest to post the remarks falsely attributed to Mr. Vahidi.
There may have been a prior post that the handle was copying, but there are no posts before this handle that make this claim.
