BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh has received a major boost in his latest attack on Punjab’s drug problem, with the Punjab Police confirming that a viral video showing a young man allegedly consuming drugs was indeed recorded in Jagraon.
The clarification comes nearly two weeks after Singh was criticised for sharing a second video as evidence of Punjab’s drug crisis, only for Punjab Police to establish that the footage was actually from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan. The episode had triggered a political confrontation between the BJP and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
This time, the video was originally posted on X by BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu and showed a man allegedly taking drugs under the Jagraon Bridge in Punjab’s Ludhiana. Singh amplified the post and took a swipe at those who had questioned the authenticity of his earlier claim, saying even the Jagraon bridge would now be declared to be in Rajasthan by “paid trolls".
Punjab Police subsequently confirmed that the footage was from Jagraon, although it indicated that the video could be old. The man seen in the clip was arrested by Ludhiana Police on August 12.

The development is particularly significant because the BJP leader’s earlier posts had become a political flashpoint. Earlier this month, Singh had shared a video showing two apparently intoxicated men and described it as evidence of Punjab’s worsening drug crisis. Police later traced that footage to Rajasthan, prompting AAP leaders to accuse him of misleading people and maligning Punjab.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema had alleged that Singh was “peddling BJP’s lies" and demanded an apology. Punjab Police, too, had urged social media users to verify the location and facts before sharing such material.
Singh, however, maintained that his larger concern was Punjab’s drug problem rather than political personalities. In his earlier response, he said, “The issue is Punjab’s drug problem," while arguing that the government should focus on efforts to make the state drug-free.
The former cricketer, who left the AAP and joined the BJP in April, has repeatedly said that he will continue raising issues concerning Punjab’s youth and drug addiction. The latest police confirmation gives his fresh video a different footing, even as the broader political battle over how Punjab is tackling drugs continues.
