US President Donald Trump has sparked fresh uncertainty over the state of US-Iran truce talks after posting a cryptic “Adios" message on social media, accompanied by a dramatic image showing explosions at sea and vessels marked with Iranian flags.

The AI-generated image, shared on Truth Social, showed Iranian boats being destroyed, debris flying through the air, and a drone with a US flag overhead.

The post comes as diplomatic efforts were reportedly moving towards a possible deal between the United States and Iran to end the war, with talks appearing closer than ever to an agreement that could end a conflict that has engulfed the Middle East and disrupted global oil markets.

Trump himself said a day earlier that a memorandum of understanding for peace had been reached.

The US president had shared that the deal “has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries".

Shortly after Trump’s announcement, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is on a visit to India, said the world might “get some good news", signalling cautious optimism over the talks.

“I do think perhaps there is the possibility that in the next few hours the world will get some good news," Rubio told reporters in New Delhi.

Before Trump’s statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei also spoke of “a trend towards rapprochement" with Washington, but warned that “it does not necessarily mean that we and the United States will reach an agreement on the important issues."

He said on state television that Iran’s “intention was first to draft a memorandum of understanding, a kind of framework agreement," before a final deal is reached within 30 to 60 days.

However, Trump’s latest post has raised questions about whether those negotiations have stalled or collapsed, although no official confirmation has been given by either Washington or Tehran.
