Ayush Shetty advances to badminton pre-quarters with 21-7, 21-7 win at Asian Games

In shooting, the women’s team of Ashi Chouksey, Tilottama Sen, and Vidarsa Vinod secured silver in the 50m rifle 3P event. In canoe sprint, Parvathy Geetha and Prasanna Kumar reached Final A in the mixed kayak double 500m, while Harshwardhan Shaktawat qualified for Final B.

He is now set to face Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen, the current BWF World Tour No. 1, in the pre-quarterfinals. Shetty aims to build on his momentum to progress further in the men’s singles competition.

On the same day, India recorded multiple achievements across other sports. In athletics, Sawan Barwal won silver in the men’s marathon, setting a national record with a time of 2:11:37. In shooting, the women’s team of Ashi Chouksey, Tilottama Sen, and Vidarsa Vinod secured silver in the 50m rifle 3P event. Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa Vinod progressed to the individual final, finishing fourth and fifth respectively after a close contest.

In squash, Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar claimed a bronze medal in mixed doubles following a semifinal loss to Hong Kong’s Tang Ming Hong and Lee Ka Yi.

In badminton, Unnati Hooda reached the women’s singles pre-quarterfinals by defeating Malaysia’s Wong Ling Ching, while Lakshya Sen was eliminated in the second round by Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew.

Boxer Jadumani Singh exited the men’s 55kg round of 16 after a loss to Carlo Paalam of the Philippines.

Indian archers delivered strong performances in qualifiers. The women’s compound team of Chikitha Taniparthi, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, and Prithika Pradeep finished second, while the men’s recurve team of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Neeraj Chauhan, and Yashdeep Bhoge placed third. Dhiraj Bommadevara set Asian and national records in the process.

In athletics, Tejaswin Shankar and Thowfeeq Noushad continued their decathlon campaigns, with Shankar winning the long jump event and remaining in medal contention. Animesh Kujur qualified for the men’s 200m semifinal by winning his heat.

India advanced in fencing with victories in the women’s foil and men’s sabre team round of 16 before quarterfinal losses to Japan and South Korea, respectively.

In canoe sprint, Parvathy Geetha and Prasanna Kumar reached Final A in the mixed kayak double 500m, while Harshwardhan Shaktawat qualified for Final B.

Table tennis players Yashaswini Ghorpade and Manush Shah were eliminated in singles rounds, and esports competitor Paritosh lost in the Puyo Puyo Champions quarterfinal. The mixed canoe double team of Raju Rawat and Neha Devi Leichonbam finished eighth in the final.
