Aamir Khan is reportedly preparing for another major physical transformation, this time for Ashutosh Gowariker’s upcoming sports drama Lalkaara. The film will reunite the actor and director years after Lagaan, but Aamir’s new character is expected to be far removed from Bhuvan, the role he played in their Oscar-nominated 2001 film.

According to a report by Filmfare, Aamir will play a 25-year-old in Lalkaara and has already started working towards losing considerable weight for the part.

Aamir Khan Begins Weight-Loss Programme For Lalkaara

Aamir has changed his physique for films several times during his career, and Lalkaara reportedly requires another demanding transformation.

A source told Filmfare, “Aamir Khan is on a massive weight-loss programme for Ashutosh Gowariker’s next film. Touted as a sports drama, Lalkaara will see the actor playing a 25-year-old."

The challenge this time is not limited to getting into a particular physical shape. At 61, Aamir will reportedly have to appear convincing as a character several decades younger than him.

The source added, “Aamir is known to go all out when it comes to physically transforming for a role, and this time too, he is putting in a great deal of work to look convincing."

Details about how the makers plan to present Aamir as a 25-year-old have not been disclosed yet.

Aamir Khan Has Transformed Himself For Roles Before

Physical transformations have been a recurring part of Aamir’s filmography. One of the most notable examples came with Dangal, for which he gained considerable weight to play an older Mahavir Singh Phogat before losing it to shoot portions featuring the character at a younger age.

His appearance has also changed considerably for films such as Ghajini, where he developed a muscular physique, and PK, which required a much leaner frame.

Lalkaara, however, presents a different challenge since Aamir will reportedly be playing someone much younger than his actual age.

What Is Lalkaara About?

Lalkaara has been written by Piyush Gupta and Neeraj Singh and is set against the world of Indian cricket.

While complete plot details remain under wraps, the film is expected to deal with rivalry, friendship and patriotism. The story will also reportedly look at the consequences of Partition through the experiences of one of the early figures associated with Indian cricket.

The combination of sport and history puts Aamir and Gowariker back in territory that carries an obvious connection to Lagaan, although Lalkaara is expected to tell an entirely different story.

Aamir Khan And Ashutosh Gowariker Reunite After Lagaan

Aamir’s reunion with Gowariker is among the biggest talking points around the project. Their most famous collaboration, Lagaan, was released in 2001 and featured Aamir as Bhuvan, a villager who assembles a cricket team to challenge British officers during colonial rule.

The film became a major critical and commercial success and was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 74th Academy Awards.

More than two decades later, cricket will once again form an important part of their collaboration.

This time, however, the setting and character are different. Instead of playing a fictional villager taking on British officers, Aamir will reportedly step into a story connected to an early chapter of Indian cricket and the upheaval caused by Partition.

With the actor’s weight-loss programme already underway, attention will now be on his eventual look for Lalkaara and further details about the character he is preparing to play.
