Toyota is working on the Innova Hycross facelift, as evidenced by recent test mule sightings. In the latest development, a design patent of the front section of Innova Hycross facelift has revealed a close resemblance to the fascia of recently launched new-gen Hilux. This new front design also matches the overall styling seen with the test mules.

Innova Hycross facelift – Exterior updates

Digitally rendered with the new front design, Innova Hycross facelift can be seen with a more SUV-like stance. An upright front fascia ensures a more planted presence. The design patent reveals a top black trim, which is something similar to the new-gen Hilux. Similarities extend to the diamond-style honeycomb grille, polygonal fog lamp housings and a slatted design for the lower grille.

Curved space for swept-back headlamps can also be seen in the design patent image. Test mules have been seen using a similar design for the headlamps. While the front fascia feels entirely new, the bonnet design is expected to be carried over. Moving to the side, there aren’t as many changes as there are at the front.

Innova Hycross has features such as squared wheel arches, conventional door handles in chrome finish, body-coloured ORVMs with integrated turn signals and distinctive creases on the door panels. Alloy wheels used with the test mules appear to have the same design as that of the current model.

At the rear, the basic shape of the tail lamps has been retained. However, there can be some refreshed elements in the LED signatures. Minor styling changes are expected across the rear bumper. Some new colour options could also be introduced with Innova Hycross facelift.

Interior updates

Inside, test mules have revealed the presence of a larger touchscreen infotainment system. The current model utilizes a 10.1-inch unit on the higher trims, which could be replaced with a 12-inch or larger unit. Updates could also be introduced for the connectivity suite, 360-degree camera setup and the digital instrument cluster. Changes are expected across the upholstery and overall fit and finish.

Powertrain options

New Toyota Innova Hycross facelift is expected to continue with the existing powertrain options. Petrol variants use a 2.0-litre TNGA, 4 cylinder unit that generates 173 hp and 204 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a CVT transmission. Petrol hybrid variants use the ICE engine in combination with an electric motor and an Ni-MH battery.

Combined system power output is 183.7 hp. Torque output is 188 Nm from the engine and 206 Nm from the electric motor. Innova Hycross hybrid variants have EV mode and driving modes of Eco, Normal and Power. These variants are equipped with an e-CVT transmission.

Innova Hycross is currently the topselling hybrid car in the country, with a market share of close to 50%. Updates introduced with the facelift will help sustain its dominance. However, competition is rising with new rivals on the scene. For context, Kia Sorento Hybrid for India is scheduled to be launched on 4th Sep while MG has launched Hector Tomahawk PHEV, claiming 1,100 kms range.
