A video showing two men allegedly in an intoxicated state standing on a roadside. They were seen struggling to stand properly. The incident took place in Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan. As the clip went viral on social media, a section of users linked their behaviour to the “zombie drug."

The video was shared on X, where the two men, wearing casual outfits with turbans, can be seen appearing disoriented. They stood at the same place with their heads and hands down for an extended period of time. They also repeatedly appeared to be falling down near the roadside, but regained their balance eventually.

At one point, one of them also dusted off something from his hand while the man behind him stood in the same position. Towards the end, the latter was seen keeping his hand on the other man’s back.

The caption accompanying the video claimed that both men were under the influence of drugs. “Another case of ‘Zombie’ drug. Video is from Sri Ganganagar," it read. It is worth noting that the claims made in the post cannot be independently confirmed.

“Heartbreaking To See"

The video, however, has triggered concern online, with users drawing comparisons between their behaviour and other incidents that recently sparked a “zombie drug" scare in several cities across the country.

A user wrote, “Fentanyl? This is like the 9th video I’ve seen on X from the same Punjab region. It’s sad to see the situation worsening. One of the worst drugs out there."

“This is a common sight in the streets of NY. Heartbreaking to see the same on Indian roads," another said.

An individual remarked, “My god, save them!!"

“We need to act as fast as against this virus that has been spreading so fast from Punjab and going to other places!!!" someone else commented.

What Is The Zombie Drug?

The term “zombie drug" is commonly used online to refer to xylazine, a veterinary sedative also known as “tranq" or “tranq dope". Xylazine is not approved for human use and can cause severe sedation, drowsiness and reduced responses. The drug has gained notoriety in the US for being mixed with opioids such as fentanyl.

The Sri Ganganagar video comes amid a series of previous incidents that sparked claims of zombie drug usage. Earlier this year, a video from Chandigarh showed a delivery worker standing motionless on a roadside for an extended period. A similar video also surfaced from Bengaluru later.
