Yamaha has launched the brand new YZF- R2 in India at a starting price of Rs. 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom). The motorcycle is offered in three variants and five colour options. Here are the top five highlights of the Yamaha R2.
New 204cc engine
The YZF-R2 is powered by a 204cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, single-cylinder engine that produces 26.1bhp and 19.1Nm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox and gets a slip-and-assist clutch as standard. The mid-spec and M variants also get a bi-directional quickshifter.
New frame
The R2 is built around a diamond frame that is suspended by a USD fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with disc brakes at both ends. The top-spec R2 M gets preload adjustable front suspension and adjustable clutch and brake levers.
TFT console and riding modes
The R2 gets a TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity. It also comes with three riding modes – Street, Sport and Rain – along with traction control as standard across all variants. The R2 M additionally gets a Smart Key System for keyless ignition.

The Yamaha R2 is available in three variants – R2, R2 with a quickshifter, and the R2 M. Prices start at Rs. 2.30 lakh and go up to Rs. 2.53 lakh (ex-showroom). The motorcycle is available in five colours, depending on the variant.
Rivals the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR
With prices starting at Rs. 2.30 lakh, the Yamaha R2 enters the premium 200cc sports bike segment. It will rival the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR 210 in India. Deliveries of the R2 are scheduled to begin from mid-September 2026.
