Xiaomi unveiled key specifications for its SkyNomad serial plug-in hybrid lineup on July 30, including a claimed 505 km CLTC electric range for the N70 Max. Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun said this gives the SUV the longest pure-electric range among production range-extended vehicles (EREVs).
The SkyNomad N70 Max is a serial PHEV, also known as an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). Unlike parallel PHEVs, serial PHEVs have an ICE only to power the battery or help the e-motor, but it is not connected to the wheels. In this case, it is a 1.5-litre ICE from Dongan.
Xiaomi’s Skynomad N70 uses a 76 kWh NMC battery and offers up to 505 km of pure-electric range under CLTC conditions. Xiaomi compared the vehicle with several competing EREVs during its technology event, saying models equipped with batteries ranging from 63.3 kWh to 80.3 kWh provide electric ranges of 500 km or less. Lei Jun didn’t disclose the names of competitors, only labelled them as Competitor A, Competitor B, etc.

The Competitor A is clearly Leapmotor D19, which boasts an 80.3 kWh battery, good for a 500 km CLTC battery range. While its battery is bigger than the N70’s, the D19 is bigger, with dimensions of 5252/1995/1780 mm (length/width/height), with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm.
For comparison, the Skynomad N70 measures 4960/1998/1785 mm and has a wheelbase of 2,950 mm.
The N70 Max is a dual-motor AWD system. The front motor produces up to 210 kW (282 hp), while the rear motor delivers 100 kW (134 hp), for a combined peak motor output of 310 kW (416 hp). The ICE is 1.5L, and according to Xiaomi, the range extender has a peak thermal efficiency exceeding 44% and can generate about 4 kWh of electricity from 1L of fuel.
Xiaomi said the SkyNomad platform can achieve energy consumption as low as 15.85 kWh/100 km under CLTC conditions. The company uses silicon carbide power electronics, low-rolling-resistance tyres, lightweight construction and thermal-management optimisation to reduce electricity consumption.

N90 Max gets 464 km EV range
Xiaomi also unveiled its second vehicle under the SkyNomad series – the larger SkyNomad N90 Max. It uses the same 76 kWh ternary lithium battery but has a CLTC electric range of 464 km. Its combined range with a full battery and fuel tank reaches 1,705 km, according to Xiaomi. Fuel consumption with the battery depleted is rated at 6.26 L/100 km under WLTC conditions.
The N90 Max also has a dual-motor AWD system producing 310 kW (416 hp). It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and has a top speed of 190 km/h.
The full-size SUV measures 5,285 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width and 1,825 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,080 mm. Its cabin supports a 2+2+3 seven-seat layout, with six seat rails allowing the second and third rows to move fore and aft.
Xiaomi said the N90 Max can charge to 285 km of range in 15 minutes, while charging from 20% to 80% takes 18 minutes.
Prices start from 259,900 yuan for the top trim version
Xiaomi opened pre-sales for the N70 Max and N90 Max on July 30. The N70 Max starts at 259,900 yuan (38,410 USD), while the flagship N90 Max costs 299,900 yuan (44,570 USD). Both are top-trim versions, with lower-positioned Pro and standard variants to follow. The models are scheduled to officially launch in September. Thus, prices to be revealed on launch in September will be lower.
Customers in China can reserve one with a refundable 1,000 yuan (147 USD) deposit, which gives them priority in production scheduling.
Double tyre blowout test
Xiaomi also demonstrated a couple of features and tests it is proud of, including the double tyre blowout test with the SkyNomad N90 Max. With seven occupants on board and travelling at 160 km/h, the SUV’s front-left and rear-left tyres were blown out simultaneously. According to Xiaomi, the N90 Max maintained straight-line stability and was brought to a controlled stop.
