Actor Gautami Kapoor has come out in support of her husband, Ram Kapoor, after he faced criticism over his behaviour on Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa. In a video shared on Instagram, Gautami urged people not to judge Ram based on edited episodes of the reality show and said the harsh comments were affecting their family.

The controversy began after contestant Shreya Kalra accused Ram of crossing personal boundaries during a conversation with fellow contestant Shilpa Shinde. Shreya alleged that Ram had made her uncomfortable and said she would confront him if he tried to kiss her again. Her remarks came after an earlier episode in which Ram kissed her multiple times on the cheek after she won a task.

Many on social media also criticised the actor over his behaviour on the show. Addressing the backlash, Gautami said she had initially decided to stay silent but felt compelled to speak after seeing the online criticism.

"Hi my lovely people... I've actually decided not to speak up regarding the show Lock Upp, but I think the last two-three days are kind of refraining me from being silent, so I've come here to speak on behalf of my husband," she said.

Responding to social media users calling Ram "sleazy" and making other remarks about him, Gautami said, "A lot of people are passing judgments, comments, saying that he's a sleaze... So let me tell you guys that this is the way Ram is. I'm not defending him for the way he is, but he's a man who is all heart."

She added that Ram entered the reality show without any strategy and believed that his genuine personality was what viewers were seeing.

"If he was being sleazy, then I'm sure the inmates would have called him out in the initial days of the show. It's been almost four to five weeks that they've been locked up. Then why is it now that suddenly there's this uproar?" she said.

Gautami also suggested that the recent fallout may have stemmed from the leadership task, in which Ram did not support Shreya.

"The only reason I can see is that yes, he did not support Shreya as the gang leader. Maybe he should have because she's done the tasks brilliantly for him and supported him all the way. But that's one's personal decision, so I don't want to comment on that," she said.

She also reminded viewers that reality shows present only an edited version of events.

"We watch the show in the comforts of our homes, while the inmates have been locked up for four to five weeks without any contact with the outside world. It must be really tough. Also, not to forget that the episodes are edited. We don't know what the whole story is; we only see the edited version," she said.

Appealing to people to be more considerate, Gautami said the online criticism was affecting those close to Ram.

"Before passing these heavy and toxic comments, please understand that all these things are trickling down to our family. Please be a little considerate of that," she said, before ending the video with a message for her husband: "Ram, we love you and we're rooting for you."

The controversy erupted after a tense leadership task on Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa. While speaking to Shilpa Shinde, Shreya accused Ram of invading contestants' personal space and referred to an incident involving Shivangi Joshi during a task. She also alleged that Ram had made her uncomfortable in the past and criticised his behaviour, although she did not confront him directly.

Clips from the show soon went viral, with several social media users criticising Ram and questioning his conduct.

Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa is hosted by Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh. The contestant line-up includes Ram Kapoor, Shreya Kalra, Shivangi Joshi, Harshad Chopra, Akanksha Chamola, Akanksha Chaudhary, Sufi Motiwala, Dheeraj Dhoopar and Varun Yadav, among others.

It remains to be seen whether the controversy will be addressed by the hosts or the jailers in an upcoming episode.
