One and a half years later, many of the technologies introduced with these SUVs continue to define benchmarks in India’s premium electric SUV segment.

Luxury EV Experience, Without Luxury PricingOne of the biggest achievements of Mahindra’s Electric Origin SUVs is the value they deliver.
Mahindra’s Electric Origin SUVs have demonstrated that buyers are willing to embrace purpose-built electric vehicles when they offer meaningful innovation.
For years, India’s EV market largely followed a familiar formula. Most electric SUVs were developed from existing ICE platforms, sharing much of their design, interiors and engineering with their petrol or diesel counterparts. It was a practical approach that helped manufacturers enter the EV space quickly while keeping costs under control. Mahindra chose a very different path.
With the launch of its Electric Origin SUVs – BE 6, XEV 9e and later XEV 9S – Mahindra invested in a dedicated born-electric platform, fresh design language and an entirely new digital architecture. Rather than adapting existing products, the company created a new premium EV ecosystem from the ground up. One and a half years later, many of the technologies introduced with these SUVs continue to define benchmarks in India’s premium electric SUV segment.

Dedicated EV Platform Makes The Difference
At the heart of Mahindra’s Electric Origin SUVs lies the INGLO platform – a dedicated skateboard architecture engineered specifically for electric vehicles. Unlike ICE-derived platforms, INGLO enables a flat cabin floor, improved weight distribution, larger battery packaging and rear-wheel drive as standard. This approach has allowed Mahindra to optimise driving dynamics, interior space, charging performance and software integration simultaneously.
BE 6 also adopts its own dedicated design identity rather than borrowing styling elements from existing Mahindra SUVs. Futuristic exteriors, distinctive lighting signatures and EV-specific interiors ensure these products immediately stand apart in a crowded marketplace. Instead of treating electrification as simply another powertrain option, Mahindra created vehicles that feel purpose-built for the electric era.
Raising The Technology Benchmark
The biggest impact of Mahindra’s Electric Origin SUVs goes beyond styling. They introduced technologies that were either first-in-segment or rarely seen at their price points.
The BE 6 brought India’s first jet fighter-inspired cockpit with a distinct driver-focused layout separated from the passenger area. XEV 9e followed with an immersive triple-screen dashboard layout, while XEV 9S expanded the lineup further by becoming India’s first three-row electric SUV in this class. Across the range, buyers get features such as:
Dedicated EV interiors
Triple-screen cockpit (XEV 9e)
AR-enabled Head-Up Display
Level 2+ ADAS with Auto Lane Change
1400W Harman Kardon premium audio system
AI-powered MAIA digital architecture
Advanced Adrenox connected technology
Semi-active suspension
Intelligent lighting with celebration mode
Self parking functions
Extensive noise insulation
Premium soft-touch interiors
Formula E Edition and Batman Edition collaborations
Several of these technologies remain unique or uncommon in their respective segments even today.
Rear-Wheel Drive Brings Driving Excitement
Mahindra also took a route that very few mainstream manufacturers have explored in India by making rear-wheel drive standard across its Electric Origin SUVs. While most competitors continue with front-wheel-drive layouts, Mahindra introduced a more engaging driving experience complete with Drift Mode, helping make rear-wheel-drive dynamics accessible to a much wider audience.
Performance has been another highlight. The single-motor variants develop up to 282 bhp, allowing a 0-100 km/h sprint in as little as 6.7 seconds. With Mahindra yet to introduce higher-performance dual-motor variants, the platform still has considerable performance potential left to unlock.
Charging capabilities are equally impressive. Support for up to 11.2 kW AC charging and up to 180 kW DC fast charging continues to place Mahindra among the leaders in charging performance within the segment.
Luxury EV Experience, Without Luxury Pricing
One of the biggest achievements of Mahindra’s Electric Origin SUVs is the value they deliver. With features such as an AR Head-Up Display, 1400W 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, semi-active suspension, Level 2+ ADAS, triple-screen cockpit, self-parking, intelligent lighting, BYOD rear-seat entertainment and premium cabin materials, Mahindra is offering equipment that is typically associated with luxury EVs costing significantly more.
In terms of overall technology and feature set, BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S overlap with premium electric SUVs such as BMW iX1, BYD Sealion 7 and Tesla Model Y, despite being priced considerably lower. While badge value, brand heritage and certain luxury attributes remain unique to premium marques, Mahindra has narrowed the gap considerably when it comes to technology, performance and overall ownership experience.
Yet pricing remains highly competitive.
BE 6 – up to Rs 26.9 lakh
– up to XEV 9e – up to Rs 30.5 lakh
– up to XEV 9S – up to Rs 30.7 lakh
(All prices ex-showroom.)
This combination of premium technology with mainstream pricing has played a major role in attracting buyers who previously had to look much higher up the price ladder for similar features.
Buyers Have Rewarded The Bold Strategy
Mahindra’s engineering-first approach has translated into strong market acceptance. Electric Origin SUV sales stood at 6,508 units in March 2026, followed by 6,023 units in April, 6,343 units in May and an impressive 7,174 units in June 2026. The company also crossed the milestone of 50,000 Electric Origin SUV sales in April 2026.
Mahindra has established itself as one of the strongest players in India’s premium electric SUV space. The growing demand reflects increasing consumer confidence in dedicated EV platforms that deliver not only long range and strong performance, but also premium technology, engaging driving dynamics and a distinct ownership experience.
Mahindra’s Electric Origin SUVs have demonstrated that buyers are willing to embrace purpose-built electric vehicles when they offer meaningful innovation. By combining dedicated EV engineering, advanced software, segment-leading features and competitive pricing, Mahindra has helped reshape expectations in India’s premium EV market. As more manufacturers prepare their next-generation electric SUVs, many of the benchmarks established by the BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S continue to influence the direction in which the segment is evolving.
