Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) said that Iran was prioritising diplomacy with the United States, but remained ready for war. “We are pursuing dialogue, but if the dialogue is not implemented, we are also prepared for war and will respond accordingly,” he said in an interview on state television, as Iranian and US delegations were due to hold separate discussions in Doha. Current meetings held by Iran ‌are aimed at fulfilling MoU ⁠commitments and we will not enter further ‌negotiations until conditions of ‌the MoU ‌signed are met, Mr. Ghalibaf, adding that Iran has sovereignty in the Strait ⁠of Hormuz along with Oman and ‌it will never compromise on its rights there. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) with the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, who briefed him on the recent developments in West Asia and the way forward. The Prime Minister said he reiterated in his interaction with the Iranian leader the importance of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz for India and the world.
