Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong on Friday affirmed China’s support for India in hosting “a successful BRICS Summit" this year, stressing that Beijing values cooperation with allies of the grouping.

His statement came a day before a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit.

On Thursday, PM Narendra Modi wrote on X: “All set for BRICS 2026!" while also sharing a detailed video featuring the Bharat Mandapam Convention centre in New Delhi, where the summit will be held.

Yu Jing, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in India, also affirmed Beijing’s support for India by resharing PM Modi’s post.

All Eyes On PM Modi-Xi Meet

Prime Minister Modi and Xi Jinping will hold a bilateral meeting tomorrow, September 12, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, with the talks expected to focus on enhancing cooperation and strengthening ties.

This will be Xi’s first trip to India after the 2020 Galwan Valley clash that left 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese soldiers dead. The visit will also reflect collected efforts of India and China to project a united front in the face of growing geopolitical turmoil.

India Hosts 18th BRICS Summit

India will host the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, with the grouping aimed at bringing together the Global South amid rising trade tensions and geopolitical uncertainty.

Among the world leaders who will participate in the summit are: Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Russian President Vladimir Putin, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, UAE Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.
