Waiting for iPhone 18? Apple could launch its standard model in 2027

Apple’s standard iPhone 18 is expected to arrive in spring 2027, rather than alongside the Pro models released in September. The company only launched its Pro models of the iPhone 18 series, along with its first-ever foldable, iPhone Duo. While the iPhone 18 pro models have already hit the shelves, the iPhone Duo has officially began. Apple has not confirmed when the standard iPhone 18 will arrive, but current expectations point towards the first half of 2027. If Apple intends to introduce the standard iPhone 18 and the iPhone Air 2 around the same period, March could become an important month for its smartphone line-up.

Apple’s standard iPhone 18 is expected to arrive in spring 2027, rather than alongside the Pro models released in September. While the company has yet to confirm a launch date, its recent release schedule offers clues about when the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 could make their debut.

Apple launched its latest series this fall, in September. However, this year was a different for both Apple and iPhones. The company only launched its Pro models of the iPhone 18 series, along with its first-ever foldable, iPhone Duo. While the iPhone 18 pro models have already hit the shelves, the iPhone Duo has officially began. Now, one of the most asked questions, what about the iPhone 18? Is Apple ditching the variant altogether? The answer is no.

Apple has not confirmed when the standard iPhone 18 will arrive, but current expectations point towards the first half of 2027. The company is reportedly preparing a separate launch window for its more affordable and mainstream smartphones, potentially bringing the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone Air to market within days of one another.

If that schedule holds, the next standard iPhone could arrive around March, marking a departure from Apple's familiar September launch cycle for its main smartphone range. However, the precise timing remains uncertain, and the company has not announced an event or confirmed which devices will feature in its next launch.

iPhone 18 launch

Apple's recent product launches offer a useful starting point for estimating when the next iPhones might appear. The company has released its entry-level iPhone models in the first quarter for two consecutive years, with the iPhone 16e announced on February 28, 2025 and the iPhone 17e unveiled on March 2, 2026. The latter went on sale on March 11.

That pattern makes a spring launch for the iPhone 18e plausible. If Apple intends to introduce the standard iPhone 18 and the iPhone Air 2 around the same period, March could become an important month for its smartphone line-up.

Apple has also used the spring period to introduce products beyond its entry-level phones. On March 3, 2026, it unveiled several devices, including the iPad Air, Studio Display, Studio Display XR, MacBook Pro models powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, and a MacBook Air featuring the M5 chip. The MacBook Neo followed on March 4.

This schedule suggests that Apple could distribute announcements across several days instead of holding a single event for every product. A similar approach in 2027 would allow the company to give each phone its own announcement while keeping the releases within a relatively short period.

There is, however, no confirmation that Apple will follow this strategy. The possibility of a joint launch remains open, as does the prospect of announcements spread across separate days.

MWC 2027 could offer another clue

The timing of Mobile World Congress (MWC), the telecommunications industry's major annual trade show in Barcelona, could provide another reference point. The 2027 edition is scheduled to run from March 1 to 4, putting it close to the period in which Apple's next smartphone announcements are expected.

Apple traditionally announces its iPhones independently of MWC, so the overlap would not necessarily mean the company plans to launch its products at the event. Nevertheless, the calendar offers a possible window for its first major smartphone releases of 2027.

One scenario would see Apple begin announcing devices on March 1, followed by further launches on March 2 and 3. These dates are illustrative rather than confirmed, and the order in which the phones might be announced is unknown.
