Vivo X500 Ultra: Leaker reveals, what's in store for the 35mm and 85mm Zeiss cameras

In the eyes of many, the Vivo X300 Ultra is the ultimate camera flagship of the year, it also currently tops our ranking of camera phones in 2026. Unlike with the Xiaomi 18 Ultra, a successor does appear to be planned for 2027 and several variants are already being evaluated. A reliable leaker currently reveals, what's in store for the next generation of the ultimate Zeiss camera flagship. At least as far as the Oppo Find X10 Ultra and the Vivo X500 Ultra are concerned, this does not seem to be the case - yet. In recent days, a few exciting specs have emerged, particularly regarding the successor to the Vivo X300 Ultra that is apparently in the process of evaluation.

Rising component costs are not only leading to higher prices and shrinking margins for consumer electronics manufacturers; some projects are also barely profitable anymore. The Xiaomi 18 Ultra could be the first casualty of the current market situation. Its development has apparently been halted for good, and other Ultra-camera flagships planned for 2027 may also be at risk, as a leaker recently hinted.

The final specs apparently have not yet been finalized according to the usually very reliable leaker Digital Chat Station but one of the options listed below are likely to make it to the final production unit.

35mm main camera with two options

For the 35mm main camera—currently based on the 1/1.12-inch 200-megapixel Sony LYT-901 sensor—there are two potential developments on the horizon. We recently described one of these in more detail; it is based on a 50-megapixel, 1/1.28-inch LOFIC sensor with a significantly advanced micro-gimbal unit, which will provide much better video stabilization. However, that solution would be a step backward in terms of sensor size and resolution.

The second development apparently does not use this new 8-degree OIS, but the sensor size and resolution remain the same—albeit with significantly higher dynamic range thanks to LOFIC technology, which is also expected to debut in the Vivo X500 Pro this fall. It remains to be seen which variant Vivo will ultimately choose; in the comments to the leaker’s Weibo post, many are currently rooting for the second option.
