Actor Vijay Varma was seemingly left uncomfortable and disappointed recently when content creator Dolly Singh called him a ‘red flag’ on a stage. This happened during the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2026. The actor, who won the Best Performance award for his role in Matka King, was on stage to collect trophy when Dolly Singh called him the “nation’s biggest red flag".

Dolly congratulated Vijay for his win and spoke about his reputation for portraying intense and morally complex characters. She pointed out that Vijay’s entry into a show or a movie often makes viewers wonder who is in trouble and what his character might do next. Singh then referred to Vijay’s on-screen image and jokingly labelled him the “nation’s biggest red flag".

Vijay responded to the comment with his own dose of humour. “Just buy a piece of red cloth and keep it at home, and make as many flags as you want," he said. Dolly was quick to hit back, calling his response a “lame joke". Vijay then delivered another punchline, saying, “Just as I let go of your terrible compliments aside."
