Two senior IPS officers, who were at the helm in the Chennai Police Commissionerate when a complaint accusing Gem Granites owner Veeramani of indulging in predatory sexual behaviour targetting minor girls first surfaced, were on Thursday (September 24, 2026) removed from their posts.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) K. Manivasan, in an order, said A. Arun, ADGP, Tamil Nadu Police Academy, and N. Kannan, Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore, were being transferred from their posts with immediate effect and placed on compulsory wait.
Mr. Kumar said the officer had told him he would deal with the complaint after conferring with then Commissioner of Police, Mr. Arun.
According to the Home Department order, DGP (Training) Rajeev Kumar will hold the additional charge of the Police Academy and R.V.
Ramya Bharati, IGP, West Zone, will hold the additional charge of Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore.

While the order did not specify reasons for their transfer, the development came against the backdrop of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee SC department leader Ranjan Kumar revealing that as early as November 2024, he had given a complaint about the crime to Mr. Kannan, when he had served as Additional Commissioner of Police, Chennai. Mr. Kumar said the officer had told him he would deal with the complaint after conferring with then Commissioner of Police, Mr. Arun.
‘Anonymous letter’
However, only last year did the police register a First Information Report (FIR) in the case, claiming that they had received an anonymous letter and pen drive (allegedly containing evidence of the sexual abuse) through a representative of a non-governmental organisation.
