Former Australian cricketer Brett Lee has said that around the world, the biggest talking point is whether Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is actually 15, but even if he is not, the fact that he is an incredibly talented cricketer and can serve India for a long period is what matters.

Sooryavanshi proved during IPL 2026 that he is unfazed by big names or the reputation of the bowlers he faces. His fearless approach, expansive shot-making and exceptional bat speed powered a brilliant season, establishing him as one of the tournament’s most talked-about young players.

Sooryavanshi’s brilliant IPL campaign earned him a fast-track call-up to India’s T20I team. While he had a quiet start to his international career during the series against England, he bounced back well on the Zimbabwe tour.

Sooryavanshi finished as Player of the Series, highlighting his ability to overcome setbacks and perform at the highest level despite his young age.

“He is incredible. Everyone offshore, away from India, asks the question if he is 15. Is he 15 is probably the biggest talking point around the world. I don’t care how old he is," Lee said while speaking on Beer Biceps YouTube channel.

“If he is 15, fantastic, but if he is 17 or 18, who cares. This kid can play cricket. He has been such a great find for India and he is going to go on to achieve bigger and better things," Lee said.

The former Australia cricketer has also lauded Sooryavanshi’s brilliant maturity for his age, highlighting his fearless batting against some of the IPL’s fastest bowlers. But Lee believes Sooryavanshi’s biggest challenge will be dealing with the spotlight and expectations that have come with his rapid rise.

“He has already lit up the IPL in such a short space of time. That 97 he got (vs SRH), he was up against Aussie bowlers. They were bowling gas and he was hooking them off his nose," Lee said.
