US Open Day 4 Women’s Predictions
Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Kimberly Birrell
Amanda:
Alexandrova has had some extreme ups and downs in the last few weeks, but she showcased some of her best tennis in the first round and has been consistent at the US Open in the last few years. Birrell got through the first round, but she was on a five-match losing streak coming into the tournament and many of those losses have come to much worse players than Alexandrova.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 2
Tope:
Alexandrova ruthlessly blitzed past Kessler in just over an hour and with the head-to-head already in her favor, she starts a clear favorite against Birrell. But the Aussie has made a habit of scrapping past bigger names so if Birrell can drag this into long rallies and use her comeback grit, don’t be shocked if she pushes Alexandrova to a decider.

Ilemona:
Ekaterina Alexandrova is the 18th seed and has had a career-best season, breaking into the Top 20 with her aggressive baseline game. Kimberly Birrell is a steady competitor who got through her opener but is still looking for a signature win at this level. This first meeting favors Alexandrova’s power and confidence.

Sorana Cirstea vs Diane Parry
Amanda:
Parry was one of the stars of the pre-US Open swing, making the Round of 16 in Cincinnati and riding that momentum to the Monterrey title. It’ll be a tough ask to defeat Cirstea, one of the most in-form players of the season, but this is one of the more exciting second-round matches on the women’s side and should be a close one.

Diane Parry rides a six-match streak into this one, red-hot after Monterrey glory and a gritty 7-5 6-4 win over Viktorija Golubic, but Cirstea’s blistering ball-striking, fresh off a ruthless 6-3 6-0 demolition of Julia Grabher, is the perfect stress test for that momentum. Expect fireworks: raw pace against crafty variety, in what should be one of round two’s tightest battles. The Romanian has fresher legs and should win this one.

Ilemona:
Sorana Cirstea is the 16th seed and moved through her opener with relative comfort. Diane Parry also advanced and has the lefty game that can create angles and trouble higher-ranked opponents. This is their first meeting, and Cirstea’s experience should help her handle Parry’s variety.

Amanda:
Kalinskaya and Wang both looked solid in their first-round matches, and they’ve had similar results heading into the US Open. Being seeded, Kalinskaya is the favorite but it won’t be an easy match by any means.

Anna Kalinskaya’s coming off a shaky, controversy-marred opener while Xinyu Wang cruised past Arango in straights. The Russian will carry the crowd’s sympathy and a 2-1 head-to-head edge into this one, but she’ll need to shake off the drama fast against a Wang who’s playing with nothing to lose and a big-hitting game built for exactly this kind of second-round ambush, but Kalinskaya should make it three in three on hardcourts

Ilemona:
Anna Kalinskaya is the 21st seed and has established herself as a consistent op 25 player across all surfaces this season. Wang Xinyu got past Emiliana Arango in the first round and has the solid baseline game to hang in rallies. This first meeting should test whether Kalinskaya can maintain her high level against a player who likes to dictate from the back of the court.

Jessica Pegula vs Sofia Kenin
Amanda:
Pegula is 4-2 against Kenin and, despite self-admitted nerves, was never in doubt in her opening match. She can match Kenin in every area of the court and is playing much better tennis right now, which should lend itself to an easy win.

Tope:
Jessica Pegula’s ranking and 2026 form (a 69.74%-win rate on the year) make her the clear favorite over a Kenin sputtering to a 6-20 record this season, and their head-to-head only tilts things further her way. Expect the American power game to control this all-American second-rounder from the baseline, with Kenin’s grit good for a set but not the upset.

Ilemona:
Jessica Pegula is the third seed and comes in off a strong Cincinnati final run, so her hard court game is dialed in. Sofia Kenin beat Venus Williams in a record-late first-round match and will need to recover quickly both physically and mentally. Pegula’s consistency from the baseline and superior recent form make her a tough second-round assignment.
