US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he will not attend the wedding of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., and socialite Bettina Anderson this weekend, saying his responsibilities in Washington require him to remain at the White House.

“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

“I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time,” he added.

Trump’s decision comes as his administration remains engaged in Pakistan-mediated diplomatic talks aimed at ending the war with Iran that the US and Israel began on February 28.

Trump had earlier hinted he may miss the wedding because of the Iran situation and other global developments.

“I have a thing called Iran and other things,” Trump told reporters on Thursday, saying Trump Jr. wanted him at the ceremony, which the president described as a “small private affair” attended by close family members and friends.

The wedding is scheduled to take place this weekend on a small island in the Bahamas, according to CNN, which cited people familiar with the plans.

Trump had originally planned to spend Friday night at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, after an event in New York’s Hudson Valley. However, an updated public schedule released Friday showed he would return to Washington instead.

Trump Jr.’s engagement to Anderson is his third. He was married to former model and actress Vanessa Trump for 12 years before their divorce in 2018, and they have five children together. He was later engaged to television personality Kimberly Guilfoyle before the two separated in 2024.
