US President Donald Trump joked about a possible third term as he addressed a gathering of journalists at the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The American leader also joked about the reason he does not want to wear a bulletproof vest, after the first White House Correspondents’ Dinner was interrupted by a gunman.

He even claimed that David Ellison, the Paramount Skydance chief executive, informed the president that the next Correspondents’ dinner would be named in his honour.
“Next year, they’re going to call it the Trump White House Correspondents’ Dinner,” Trump said.

While commenting on the rescheduling, Trump started his address by saying, “second time’s the charm”. He went on to joke about a possible third term in office. “Just like my presidency, the second time is always better. It’s always better,” he said. “And the third time will be better yet.” “I’m only kidding,” he added.

Trump also pointed to the fact that it wasn’t easy watching the presentation of awards for coverage critical of his administration. “This has not been an easy evening – all these awards,” Trump said. “Do I have a say on those awards?”

The remark came right after the Wall Street Journal reporters were awarded for their report that uncovered a bawdy letter that Donald Trump allegedly wrote to Jeffrey Epstein for his 50th birthday.
Trump made light of what went down the last time
In his speech, the American president also made light of the chaotic moment during April’s press gala when guests at the Washington Hilton took cover under tables after shots were heard outside the ballroom.
“After hearing the gunshots, many people yelled, ‘Get down! Get down!’ which caused Nicki Minaj to start twerking. Do you believe it? Get down!” Trump said. “She’s the only one that really understood what that meant,” he added.
The American leader also joked about the reason he does not want to wear a bulletproof vest, after the first White House Correspondents’ Dinner was interrupted by a gunman. “Everyone’s looking really good tonight, and I know it was not easy finding shoes to go along with your bulletproof vest, which many people didn’t want to wear because they’d rather die than look 20 pounds heavier,” he joked.
Trump said “they,” appearing to refer to the Secret Service, put a bulletproof vest on him. “I said, ‘Are you sure? I’m not wearing this.’”
He continued: “They say, ‘Sir, it’s about 21 pounds.’ I said, ‘Not good.’” He lauded the Secret Service officer Victor Gonzales during his speech.
At the original dinner in April, Gonzales was struck by gunfire and engaged an armed intruder who opened fire at the event. “What he did was amazing,” Trump said during his remarks. “We salute you, and we thank you with all of our hearts. Thank you very much. Great job.” He eventually vowed to return to the dinner next year.

“Now, if you get really, really nasty, maybe not,” he added. “But we’re going to be back.” Trump previously attended the annual dinner as a civilian, but this year was the first he went to as president. He even claimed that David Ellison, the Paramount Skydance chief executive, informed the president that the next Correspondents’ dinner would be named in his honour.
“Next year, they’re going to call it the Trump White House Correspondents’ Dinner,” Trump said. “(Ellison) told me that, and I like that very much. We’re going to change the name of it, okay?”
