Three-row EVs affect the Ebella’s positioning

The top-spec Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella has been launched for Rs. 23.60 lakh, and this markup is relatively on the higher side for what is essentially a Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, wherein the corresponding top-spec model sells for an ex-showroom price of Rs. 19.79 lakh. Here are top alternatives that you can go for.

Maruti e Vitara Alpha

The Ebella and the e Vitara are mechanical twins, built on top of the HEARTECT-E platform, and rolled off the same production line. At Rs. 19.79 lakh, ∼Rs. 4 lakh higher, the premium for the Toyota badge is on the higher side. A 61kWh LFP battery pack paired with a 172bhp/193Nm motor powers these mid-size electric SUVs.

Features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.1-inch infotainment with wireless connectivity, sunroof, 360° camera, seven airbags, and Level 2 ADAS.

Vinfast VF 6 Wind Infinity

At Rs. 19.19 lakh, the Vinfast VF 6 even undercuts the Maruti e Vitara. With a 210bhp/310Nm motor paired with a 59.6kWh battery, claimed range stands at 468km. Not only is the VF 6 more powerful, it also gets a fixed panoramic glass roof, eight-speaker audio, 18-inch tyres, and multiple drive and regen modes.

Mahindra XEV 9S Pack Two Above (79kWh)

At an ex-showroom price of Rs. 26.20 lakh, the Mahindra XEV 9S brings three-row convenience, as well as more power and higher range. With a 282bhp/380Nm motor paired with a 79kWh BYD Blade LFP battery, the XEV 9S gets 679km claimed range, and it has covered over 500 kilometres in our real-world assessments.

Specs include NFC-based smartphone locking/unlocking, dual-zone climate control, 360° camera, and Level 2 ADAS.

Tata Harrier EV Fearless+ AWD (75kWh)

This is one of the two AWD offerings in this segment. With an ex-showroom price of Rs. 26.49 lakh, the Harrier EV not only undercuts the Toyota Ebella, but it also surges ahead of the aforementioned offerings, striking a perfect balance between power and practicality. Not only is it a full-size SUV, it is also the second-most powerful of this lot, standing at 313bhp/504Nm. This mechanical setup is paired with a 75kWh battery pack, delivering a claimed range of 622km. Off-road capabilities are enhanced by a crawl control function.

This version of the Tata Harrier EV offers specifications like seven standard airbags, dual-zone climate control, air purifier with AQI display, auto-dimming IRVM, and Level 2 ADAS.

Vinfast VF 7 Sky (70kWh)

The Vinfast VF 7 is the second AWD offering in this segment. With a 70kWh LFP battery pack paired with a 348bhp/500Nm dual-motor setup, claimed range stands at 510km. The VF 7 gains a horsepower advantage over the Tata Harrier EV, but the Harrier EV has more torque. Features like projector headlights, dual-zone climate control, powered driver seat, Level 2 ADAS, and a 12.9-inch infotainment with wireless connectivity, are found here.

Where the Ebella Leads

The Toyota badge may command a premium, but the carmaker has an excellent service record to back it up. Although the Ebella is a Maruti e Vitara underneath, it is fairly reliable. However, a premium of Rs. 1-1.5 lakh could have been an ideal positioning.
