Top 25 Selling Cars in India in May 2026

The sedan’s 36% YoY growth is notable because India’s sedan segment has been under pressure for years due to the rise of SUVs. The Alto’s 99% YoY growth was one of the sharpest increases in the list, showing that entry-level demand may be recovering from a low base. Tata Motors had three models in the Top 25: Punch, Nexon, and Sierra. Out of the Top 25 models, 16 were SUVs. Mahindra had a strong SUV-only presence in the Top 25 with Scorpio, Thar, XUV 7XO, Bolero, and XUV 3XO.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire topped the May 2026 sales chart with 24,546 units, comfortably ahead of the Fronx, Ertiga, Punch, and Nexon. The sedan’s 36% YoY growth is notable because India’s sedan segment has been under pressure for years due to the rise of SUVs.

Maruti Suzuki once again had the highest representation in the Top 25 list, with 10 models making it to the chart. These included: Dzire, Fronx, Ertiga, Baleno, Wagon R, Swift, Brezza, Eeco, Victoris, Alto, and Grand Vitara. The company’s spread across body styles is impressive. It had models in sedans, hatchbacks, SUVs, MUVs, and vans. This wide coverage helped Maruti maintain leadership even as the market continued shifting toward SUVs.

Fronx was Maruti’s second-best-selling model in May 2026 with 20,686 units, up 52% YoY. Ertiga also delivered strong numbers with 20,350 units, showing continued demand for affordable 7-seater family vehicles.

Among hatchbacks, the Baleno, Wagon R, Swift, and Alto all featured in the Top 25. The Alto’s 99% YoY growth was one of the sharpest increases in the list, showing that entry-level demand may be recovering from a low base. However, the Brezza was one of the few Maruti models to decline, with sales falling 14% YoY to 13,425 units.

Tata Motors had three models in the Top 25: Punch, Nexon, and Sierra. The Punch ranked fourth overall with 20,208 units, registering a strong 54% YoY growth.

Nexon followed closely with 19,100 units, growing 46% YoY and continues to remain one of Tata’s most dependable volume contributors.

Tata Sierra also entered the Top 25 with 6,606 units. However the volumes remained lull when compared to the bookings hype it had created.

Out of the Top 25 models, 16 were SUVs. This includes models across price points, from compact SUVs such as Punch, Nexon, Venue, Sonet, Brezza, XUV 3XO, to larger and lifestyle-oriented models such as Scorpio, Thar, Innova/Hycross, Grand Vitara, Hyryder, and Sierra. The Top 10 itself had five SUVs: Fronx, Punch, Nexon, Scorpio, and Creta.

Mahindra had a strong SUV-only presence in the Top 25 with Scorpio, Thar, XUV 7XO, Bolero, and XUV 3XO. Scorpio was Mahindra’s highest-selling model in May 2026 with 15,774 units, growing 10% YoY. Thar recorded 10,787 units, up 4% YoY, showing stable demand for lifestyle SUVs. The Bolero remained steady at 8,933 units, almost flat compared to May 2025. The XUV 7XO recorded 9,338 units, while the XUV 3XO saw a 16% YoY decline to 6,717 units.

Hyundai had two models in the Top 25: Creta and Venue. The Creta sold 15,235 units in May 2026, growing 3% YoY. Venue performed better in growth terms, with 11,714 units, up 56% YoY.

Kia had two SUVs in the Top 25 - Seltos and Sonet. Seltos recorded 10,597 units, registering a strong 74% YoY growth. This was one of the highest growth rates in the Top 25 list and indicates renewed momentum for Kia’s midsize SUV. Sonet sold 9,707 units, growing 21% YoY.
